Math Fractions 3

Introduction to math fraction 3:

In Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns, formulate new conjectures, and establish truth by rigorous deduction from appropriately chosen axioms and definitions. A fraction is a number that can represent part of a whole. The earliest fractions were reciprocals of integers: ancient symbols representing one part of two, one part of three, one part of four, and so on. (Source: Wikipedia)

Examples of math fractions 3:

Here we will discuss about the math fraction 3,

Math fraction 3 - Example 1:

My fender bar recipe calls for 9 4/3 cups of pecans and 5 1/3 cups of walnuts. How many cups of nuts are needed in the receipt?

Solution:

My fender bar recipe calls for 9 4/3 cups of pecans,

5 1/3 cups of walnuts,

= 9 4/3 + 5 1/3

= 9 4/3 = (9 * 3 + 4)/3 = 31 / 3

= 5 1/3 = (5 * 3 + 1)/3 = 16 / 3

= (31 / 3) + (16 / 3)

= 47 / 3

Answer: 47 / 3 Cups of nuts are needed in the receipt.

Math fraction 3 - Example 2:

Jack ate 9 1/8 grapes and Alex ate 5 6/8 grapes. They finished all the grapes that were in the bag. How many grapes were in the bag?

Solution:

Jack ate 9 1/8 grapes

Alex ate 5 6/8 grapes

= 9 1/8 + 5 6/8

= (9 * 8 + 1) / 8 = 73 / 8

= (5 * 8 + 6) / 8 = 46 / 8

= (73 / 8) + (46/8)

= 109 / 8 grapes in the bag.

Answer:  109/8 grapes in the bag
