Introduction of Continued Sum:
Continued sum is defined as that they consist of two or more quantities which is interrelated to one another that seems to be chain relationship. Continued sum is the continued proportion, if first is proportion to the second and second is proportion to the third and third is proportion to the fourth and so on……. If a, b, c, d, e is in continued sum, then
a/b = b/c = c/d = d/e
Example Problems – Continued Sum
Example 1:
Three persons X, Y and Z are combining to get an amount of 14000 Rupees in a share market. Their share in the amount is in ratio as follows
X : Y = 4 : 2
Y : Z = 10 : 5
To Find share of each person.
Solution:
Total amount of profit = 14000
Ratio of X, Y and Z is
X : Y : Z
4 : 2
10 : 5
40 : 20 : 10
The Sum of ratio = 40 + 20 + 10 = 70
Share of A = 40/70 x 14000 = 8000
Share of B = 20/70 x 14000 = 4000
Share of C = 10/70 x 14000 = 2000
Answers:
The person X's share is 8000
The person Y's share is 4000
The person Z's share is 2000
Example 2
Divide 2562 apples get the three sales man namely Junith, Kumar and Sammy. Such that ratio between their shares as
Junith : Kumar= 4 : 5
Kumar : Sammy = 8 : 10
Solution:
Let amount to be divide = 2562
Ratio of their share
Junith : Kumar : Sammy
4 : 5 :
: 8 : 10
32 : 40 : 50
The Sum of ratios = 32 + 40 + 50 = 122
Share of Junith = 32/122 x 2562 = 672
Share of Kumar =40/122 x 2562 = 840
Share of Sammy = 50/12 x 2562 = 1052
Answer:
Junith's share is 672
Kumar's share is 840
Sammy's share is 1052
